Western Oregon University
Campus events, sports and performances are part of everyday life, and WOU is one of the town's biggest employers.
I grew up in Monmouth, so this one's personal. Whether you're working at Western Oregon University, buying your first home, investing near campus, or selling the family home, you deserve someone who knows this town the way only a hometown kid can, plus a clear plan to get you where you want to go.

Monmouth sits on Highway 99W about 15 miles southwest of Salem, right next door to Independence. It was settled in the early 1850s by families from Monmouth, Illinois, who sold town lots to fund a college. That college opened in 1856 and grew into Western Oregon University, which calls itself Oregon's oldest public university.
Monmouth also has one of the best bits of trivia in the state: it banned alcohol sales in 1859 and stayed dry until voters changed that in 2002, making it the last dry town in Oregon. You'll still see the nod to it around town today.
Growing up here, I loved how walkable it is. Main Street, the campus, the parks and the schools are all close together, and you always feel like part of a community.

Polk County sits on the west side of the Willamette Valley, one of the best Pinot Noir regions in the world, and the Eola-Amity Hills are right next door. A few of my personal favorites anywhere in Polk County are Andante, Van Duzer and Zenith.
